Personal Note:

Jason’s story resonated with me. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse myself — at the hands of a family member — I recognized so much of what he carried. The vulnerability, the isolation, the absence of a father’s voice speaking into those tender years. These aren’t abstract struggles to me.

Like Jason, I also found myself drawn in more than one direction — longing for connection with men while also deeply desiring a wife and children. That tension is real, and it’s rarely talked about honestly.

What struck me most about Jason’s story is how his abuse didn’t stop in childhood. His vulnerability as a survivor made him a target again when he was older — isolated as a same-sex attracted young man, without a strong relationship with his father to anchor him. That combination of wounds is something the church needs to understand and take seriously.

If any part of Jason’s story resonates with you, you are not alone. There are others of us walking this road.
